Occupational safety and environmental protection
The management of “Maten Petroleum” JSC underlines the priority status of labor protection, industrial safety and environmental protection in its daily activities by approving and publishing the Company Policies, aimed at:
- Building and maintaining an effective health, safety and environment management system complying with the Republic of Kazakhstan laws and international standards for health safety and environmental protection;
- Consistent reduction of the occupational injury rate, occupational diseases, accidents, and adverse environmental impact corresponding to the best performance;
- Ensure the organization of safe production and environmental protection based on systematic analysis and management of occupational hazard;
- Continuous improvement of working conditions, industrial and environmental safety.
One of the key activities to reduce injuries and accidents in the workplace is to prohibit the distribution, use or presence of company employees under the influence of alcohol, prohibited drugs or psychotropic substances in all sites and workplaces. The core principles of this activity stated in the Alcohol, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Policy.
To ensure successful implementation of the QHSE policy, “Maten Petroleum” JSC has accepted the following obligations
- To operate the activities strictly abide in accordance with regulatory requirements of legislative and regulatory legal acts of Health, Safety and Environmental Law as well as the requirements of industry and corporate standards and norms;
- To raise efficiency of industrial control compliance with labor protection and industrial safety requirements;
- To involve all employees in activities to ensure production safety and environmental protection;
- To introduce the results of advanced scientific research and innovative technologies at production facilities in order to reduce hazards and risks to the life and health of workers, the population, as well as negative impacts on the environment;
- To hold a dialogue with all interested parties and ensure open and of indicators in the field health, safety and environment;
- To constantly improve the level of knowledge and competence of Suppliers in the field of labor protection and industrial safety;
- To provide sufficient resources for programs in the field of labor protection and industrial safety.
All the Company's managers bear responsibility for achieving the goals and complying with HSE requirements, as well as for assigning responsibilities, allocating resources, and taking timely and appropriate measures to prevent accidents and maintain sufficient level of environmental protection.
Managers at all levels also bear responsibility for the active involvement of employees in the implementation of relevant HSE programs aimed at reducing injuries, preventing accidents and protecting the environment through:
- Showing Personal Example of commitment to the company’s policies and standards in the field of HSE;
- Risk assessment mandatory for work planning;
- Priorities for discussing HSE issues at production meetings tool-box meeting;
- Organizing systematic training and informing staff regarding HSE;
- Requirements for full compliance with standards HSE by each employee performing their direct duties;
- To undertake effective measures for to eliminate hazards.
Each staff at his workplace is responsible for the safe performance of production in accordance with applicable instructions and procedures, using of working equipment and personal protective equipment, reporting of hazards and risks detected in the workplace, the application of the right to stop work if a threat to the life and health of the staff themselves or the people around them.
We strongly believe that the most effective way to reduce the level of occupational injuries and accidents at production workplace is the timely identification of hazards and its assessment and design adequate measures to eliminate them or reduce the severity of the consequences.
The responsibility of all the employees of contracting and subcontracting organizations that are contracted are to strictly comply with all HSE policies, standards, regulations and requirements adopted by “Maten Petroleum” JSC.
Careful attitude to the environment, preserving natural resources and its diversity, minimizing the negative impact of production operations on flora and fauna is the most important area of activity of “Maten Petroleum” JSC at all the Company's facilities, industrial environmental control is carried out, which includes atmospheric air, monitoring of surface, underground and groundwater, monitoring of soils, which allows to promptly respond and eliminate violations in the operation of process equipment at the facilities. Over the entire observation period at the fields and oil pumping stations, there were no excesses for all components of the natural environment.
As part of the implementation of environmental measures, “Maten Petroleum” JSC holds:
- Landscape gardening of field facilities and oil pumping stations.;
- Reclamation works to restore the historically contaminated sites at the Kara-Arna field, which have been going on for 13 years;
- Concludes contracts for the removal of generated waste and household wastewater with licensed companies;
- Installs (updates as necessary) containers for waste collection in order to prevent environment pollution;
- Conducts Preventive work (discussions) with personnel and serving field facilities and oil pumping stations about environmental protection.
The company monitors all changes in environmental legislation, according to which all required activities are conducted and development of design and planning materials are carried out.
Maten Petroleum JSC principled stand is that the Company has always considered HSE level as one of the most important parameters of management quality, required for strong development of a business!
